Laurie-Jeanne Lister holds both Performance and Pedagogy ARCT Diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music, a Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts Degree in Musicology from the University of Victoria as well as the Artist’s Diploma and Magister artium Degree (both in Piano Performance and Pedagogy) from the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (Austria), where she graduated with the highest distinction: “Auszeichnung”. On top of formal university training, she has also participated in numerous Masterclasses led by some of the most prominent pianists in Europe as well as Canada.
Ms. Lister has an international concert career that spans Canada, the United States, Europe (Austria and France) and Asia with radio and television broadcasts in Sri Lanka, Austria, and Canada.
Prof. Mag. Lister has enjoyed a productive teaching career both in Austria (Musikschule Hollabrunn as well as private instruction in Vienna), Canada (Mount Royal University, Calgary) and the United States (Mira Costa College, San Diego, Musikmeister Studio, San Diego). Her area of expertise is Early Childhood Music Instruction. Trained in this specialty both in Canada (University of Calgary) and in Austria, (University of Performing Arts in Vienna), Prof. Lister combines Kodaly and Orff techniques with age-related music games to create a fun and effective learning atmosphere. She has over 20 years experience working with pre-school children. Numerous students of Prof. Lister have progressed to professional music careers.
Known as an engaging adjudicator, clinician and lecturer, Prof. Lister is in demand at Music Festivals, Competitions and Masterclasses throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
Her book, Humor as a Concept in Music (Peter Lang:1994) has been used both as a textbook as well as required reading for both undergraduate and graduate music courses in Austria and Germany. Prof. Lister has also published numerous musicological articles in North American as well as European musical journals.
Laurie Jeanne Lister lives in San Diego, California where she is a Professor of Piano Performance and Music Theory at Mira Costa College, San Diego, as well as the director of Musikmeister Piano Studio. She continues to enjoy her contribution to music education in North America as a member of the College of Examiners of the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCMusic) both in Canada and in the United States.
